Between two
worlds

Roksana Jalali is an illustrator and painter based in Amsterdam. Born in Iran, she brings the visual language of Persian manuscripts, miniature painting and ancient fable traditions into a contemporary mixed-media practice.

Working with pen, acrylic and watercolour pencils, she lets accidental moments guide the image — embracing the unexpected marks that emerge when different materials meet. Her illustrations carry the layered, luminous quality of illuminated texts.

Alongside her art practice, she works as an early years educator in Amsterdam — giving her an intuitive understanding of how visual storytelling reaches young readers.
